Sidmouth’s first Climate Café – space to talk!

This month, we had the first Sidmouth Climate Café popping up!

Here’s a look at what it got up to – and what the idea is all about – from Eco Hub Sidmouth founder Bernie Davis:

Sidmouth’s First Climate Café

Despite the rain and gloomy outlook people gathered under a gazebo in Blackmore Gardens on Saturday at 3:00 for a Climate Cafe. This was hosted by Eco Hub Sidmouth and CAPS as one way to engage people and offer them support to discuss climate issues. Also, there was free cake and a hot cup of tea on offer.

It is an opportunity to talk about climate change, how you feel about it and consider what can be done. Climate Cafes are community led, informal spaces where everyone is welcome to join the conversation and get involved. They reflect a shared ethos of creating a safe space that is welcoming and inclusive for everyone to talk about and act on climate. There is no need to be an expert, all perspectives are welcomed. Many people find them inspiring and positive spaces to connect with others.

As it has now been accepted that climate change is with us, people increasingly need to talk about what our changing world means for us in terms of impacts at personal, family and societal level. Climate Cafes will help people to explore complex feelings and thoughts which can be hard to talk about.

As participants drank their tea, ate the cake and shared their views on the climate, by 4:00 the sun came out!
