COP30 comes to Sidmouth!

There are lots of ways we are engaging the Sid Valley community in making an impact on the climate and the environment, from the Repair Café to the Plastic Warriors, from Sidmouth in Bloom to the Biodiversity Group.

Something that has been particularly successful in engaging the wider community has been the Sidmouth Sea Fest & Coastal Community Hub – and in particular their dynamic and vibrant Sidmouth School Of Art.

Recently, they have been putting on free workshops: where art and nature meet – the next one happening this coming Saturday 15th focussing on the big event this week: COP 30.

And in parallel they have been working hard behind the scenes on a fabulous piece of creativity, their Wallspace | COP 30:

A collaborative visual response to the United Nations Climate Change Conference, November ’25 in Brazil. This piece, created by 18 UK based artists, 2 of them from Brazil and 2 Brazilian artists living in Santos and São Paulo, both celebrates our natural environment, and expresses collective fears, making a powerful statement ahead of COP 30.

The Herald looks at the Sidmouth billboard response to the COP 30 in Brazil with enthusiasm:

The artwork, celebrating the natural beauty of ‘our’ local environment, emphasises the need for its preservation for future generations. Coinciding with COP 30 in Belém, Para, the gateway to the Amazon Rainforest, the project aims to raise awareness about climate change and the necessity of protecting our shared home.

The collective artworks, showcasing land and seascapes, flora, and fauna, celebrate the beauty of their natural environments in both Sidmouth and Brazil. Each painting featured in the billboard artwork can be viewed individually in the digital exhibition COP 30 | Sidmouth School of Art, offering more insights into the inspiration behind the various subjects.
