This month’s Eco Hub has been looking at the theme of Active Travel – and promoting walking and cycling in the Sid Valley, with the first session at the Tourist Information Centre busy with representatives from different Sidmouth groups keen to promote walking and wheeling.

The Sid Valley Cycling Club were there with information about their rides across the area.
The Sidmouth Cycling Campaign also got out lots of its new business cards to cycles and cyclists around the town centre, speaking to those on two wheels who are concerned about potholes and lack of safe routes.
The Sidmouth Walking Festival were well represented, promoting the upcoming fest in September.
In addition, there were several activities for children and young people at play at the Eco Hub, as well as a free raffle for a bike lock.
The Student Council at the college has long advocated for the building of the Sidford to Sidbury cycle path, so a cycle campaign is seen as relevant for them.
The National ‘Walk to School Week’ is scheduled from 19th-23rd May and Sidmouth Primary School has promoted this in their weekly newsletter.
Walking and cycling are activities that are enjoyable, social and support both physical and mental health!
There will be another chance to catch up and engage with all themes around Active Travel at the next Eco Hub happening at the Library on Saturday 26th between 11am and 1pm.
In the meantime, the Sidmouth Cycling Campaign has got in touch with all four candidates for the May county council elections asking them what they intend to do, if elected, to encourage Active Travel in the Sid Valley.

Two candidates have responded so far…
