ECO-HUB Sidmouth launches!

What exactly is an ‘eco-hub’?

Well, schools are doing it as many feel Eco Hubs are the future and many councils see them as ‘pop-up’ places to talk climate change and biodiversity.

So, would an eco-hub for Sidmouth make sense? Exmouth has got it’s Community space at Sideshore – but, at least initially, it’s being asked if some initially temporary set-up would be possible for Sidmouth:

Maybe not a full suite of talks and workshops and events – but a drop-in spot somewhere in the centre of town, to allow for different ‘eco-groups’ to present what they do and to engage with the passing public?”

And this is where we are now!

The Climate Awareness Partnership Sidmouth is behind this new Eco-Hub Sidmouth. As it’s founder and driver Bernie Davis says:

CAPS, which is supported by the town council, is seeking to further raise awareness and broaden engagement through the creation of an Eco Hub where residents and visitors alike can ask questions and exchange ideas about climate change.

Its purpose will be to provide an ongoing presence in town, to engage people on issues related to climate change…a place to have your say/find information/exchange ideas/learn what is happening/volunteer…

And last Saturday 30th November, we had a “sneak preview” of the Eco Hub Sidmouth initiative in town.

The Eco Hub Sidmouth popped up in the Market Square at the first Advent weekend.

Here’s the press release:

There was a Pop-Up for Eco Hub Sidmouth in Market Square on Saturday morning. This was a sneak preview for a 6-month trial to take place in the Tourist Information Centre of the 2nd Saturday of the month and also in the Library on the 4th Saturday, 2025.

Displays included The Benefits of an Eco Hub, ECOE advice on making your home energy efficient, and a Thermal Imaging Camera Report. Passers by showed interest in the topics and also demonstrated their climate change awareness by reflecting on their work and personal experiences.

And here’s the first date:

Come to the first Eco Hub Sidmouth session at the Tourist Information Centre on Saturday, 11th January from 11:00-1:00.

Topic for January is Keeping Warm and Retrofitting.

With a poster for the first sessions designed by Charles Sinclair:

And they’re going up all round town!

Over the coming weeks, further plans and programmes will be put together – but if you have any suggestions, do contact CAPS!
