A message of cheer for the New Year from the organisers of the Eco Hub Sidmouth:
You may have noticed in articles in the Sidmouth Herald, in postings on the CAPS website and on social media, and in the CAPS newsletter mention of an Eco Hub being trialled in Sidmouth. Following the Pop-up in the Market Square in November, the official launch will take place on the 11th January in the Tourist Information Centre and will continue bimonthly through June. The trial will explore whether a wide engagement on climate change issues can be accomplished with Sidmouth residents through a regular presence in well-known sites.
According to the World Meteorological Organization the year 2024 is set to be the warmest on record. Greenhouse gas levels continue to grow to record observed highs, locking in even more heat for the future (30 Dec, 2024). Although such news can be depressing and make us feel powerless, it can also serve as motivation to reach out and share information or feelings about climate change with others. Eco Hubs have been found to promote green practices and empower individuals to take action for a greener future. It’s good to know that small, everyday decisions can boost awareness of mitigating factors and decrease our individual carbon footprints, which can make a difference to overall outcomes.
We hope that you will drop into at least one of the Eco Hub sessions to either learn more or contribute to one of the topics on offer…or volunteer to talk to members of the public. The sessions will run from 11:00 – 13:00 on the following dates:
